和訳をお願いします!(>_<) New York , Wlth its world-class museums, art galleries, Opera houses and theaters, has always considered itself America’s cultural capital. New York ers have always looked down a little on Los Angeles (LA) because the city’s reputation is not based on “serious” culture but on pop culture and entertainment, namely movies, TV and popular music. But how true is this View? Until the early part of the 20th century. LA was a small and unimportant place. It begun to grow into the giant city we see today after the arrival of the First movie companies. These companies were originally hosed in and around New York City. Eventually. they realized that in order to make better movies. they needed a place with natural sunlight. n warm climate and wide-open spaces. Not surprisingly. they chose southern California. By the 1920s. the world's major film studios were concentrated in one LA district culled Hollywood. Movies require not only Actors. but also many other talented people. including writers. directors. singers, dancers. musicians, composers. designers. and special effects technicians. As the movie business grew successful. creative people from all over the world began to move to the city. and this trend has continued up to the present day. So even if LA is not the nation’s center of culture. it does have the reputation of being America's most creative city. It is said that about one in every six residents of LA is employed in a creative industry such as movies. TV production, music. fashion or video games. What is more. modern-day LA is a fantastic city for art lovers. Believe it or not. it is the city with the most museums per head of population in the world. with world- class institutions such as the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Art is considered very important by the city authorities. For example, when real estate developers construct a new building. by law they must donate one percent of the cost to a fund for public art. At the beginning of the 20th century. LA was a minor city with a population only slightly above 100,000 people. Now. with its creative population and growing cultural status. it is surely one of the world's most foscinating places.(続きを読む)
