和訳お願いします Mt. Everest has been climbed by a variety of people and there are many "Everest records." Among these is the first woman to reach the top ― the Japanese climber, Junko Tabei ― in 1975. The [ A ], Jordan Romero, (1)did it at the age of 13 on May 22, 2010. (2)His record may never be broken, as Nepal does not give climbing licenses to people under 16 (so he had to climb from the Tibet* side), and a month after Jordan's climb, the Chinese authorities* announced the age limit for Everest climbs from Tibet. Two years before Jordan's success, Min Bahadur Sherchan became the [ B ] person to climb the mountain. He was 76 years old when he stood on the top of the world on May 25, 2008. He had lived among the mountains of Nepal all his life but he had never had any special training as a mountaineer*. Nobody can be sure who first reached the top of Mt. Everest. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were certainly the first to climb the mountain and get down again, in 1953. But it is perfectly possible that (3)George Mallory and Andrew Irvine reached the summit* in 1924. (Mallory is famous for his answer to the question of why he wanted to climb the mountain: "Because it's there.") But they never returned from Everest. Nobody had any idea how far Mallory and Irvine had got until 1999, when their bodies were found, perfectly preserved in the freezing cold, near the top of Mt. Everest. Were they on their way up or coming down? (4)Mallory's daughter had a special reason for believing that her father did reach the top. He had been carrying a photograph of his wife and he had intended to leave it there. Mallory's wallet and other documents were found on his body, but the photograph was missing.(続きを読む)
