【やや急ぎ】Itがthat節を受ける形式主語である理由は？ This decline in vigor with the passing of time is called aging. It is one of the most unpleasant discoveries which we all make that we must decline in this way. という英文なのですが、和訳を見ると、2文目のItはthat we must ……を受ける形式主語で訳しているようです。 確かにそれで意味も通りますし、自然で、その通りだと思うのですが、 that以下がdiscoveriesを説明するわけではない確固たる根拠 が思いつきません。 Itをagingとして、that以下がdiscoveriesの内容を説明するとしても、一見ある程度通るようにみえます。 個人的には、 ・aging（年をとること、老化）が発見の１つ、とはどういうことなのかよくわからない。 ・内容を説明するthatだとすると、「このように（時間が経つとともに？）私たちが衰えなけ ればならないという、私たち皆がする発見」が複数あることになってしまうから。 と思ったのですが、私の国語力が弱さゆえ、どうもしっくり来ません。 よろしくお願いします。(続きを読む)
